(March 15, 2011 EADS,
COLORADO) The Kiowa County Division of Emergency Management, in
conjunction with the Colorado Division of Emergency Management,
has obtained funds to provide 70 low-cost NOAA All-Hazards
Weather Radios to Kiowa County residents. The radios will be
distributed during the Kiowa County Health Fair April 1-2 from
7:00 to 10:30 a.m. each day until supplies are exhausted. The
health fair will be held at Eads Elementary School, located at
the corner of Maine and 10th Streets in Eads.
The radios provide
advance notice for a variety of severe weather, such as tornados
and thunderstorms. During other emergencies, the radios can also
be used to provide critical information, such as evacuation
instructions or locations of shelters.
County residents will be
able to purchase the radios – Midland model WR-100 – during the
health fair for only $5. A set of batteries will be included,
and the radios will be set up to receive warnings specific to
Kiowa County. These radios regularly sell for $35 to $50 in
stores.
Meteorologist-in-Charge
Jennifer Stark from the National Weather Service Office in
Pueblo will be on hand to assist with setting up radios and
answer weather-related questions.
Kiowa County will also be
holding its annual SkyWarn weather spotter training March 30 in
the Kiowa County Courthouse meeting room beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The two-hour course is free of charge, and is appropriate for
both experienced weather spotters as well as anyone interested
in learning more about spring/summer weather patterns. |
